alternatives

Now that the nice Mr. Gates has given up on MSMoney, are there any
alternatives out there ?

I have had a quick Google, but cant find anything obvious ?

Firstly, why would you not just continue to use Money, since it continues to
do what it says on the tin? As to alternatives, you might wish to have a
look at Moneydance, one of several choices.

Microsoft... :-)

Secondly, as has already been suggested, there is no real reason to stop
using Money for the foreseeable future. There will come a time, of course,
when the latest version of Windows no longer supports 32-bit applications,
just as 64-bit Windows now no longer supports 16-bit applications, but
that's 5 years away at the *very* least - probably nearer 10...

I have Money 2005 working perfectly on 64-bit Windows 7 Professional and
have no intention of changing unless something better comes along...

Hi again & thanks for the responses.

My reason for thinking about switching to a new product is that my copy of
Money (2001) does have bugs. I can work around them OK, but I still have
issues with some reports that I cannot customise properly (garbled text
boxes).

However there are quite a few annoying bugs in Money which will never
be fixed.

There are a few alternatives but I have not tried any of them:
- GNUCash (Open source)
- TurboCash (Open source)
- Moneydance (Commercial)
- Accountz (Commercial)

Have tried Gnucash (free but not easy to use), You Need A Budget
(expensive and not as comprehensive as Money) and several others whose
names escape me. Now using Moneydance which has some pluses and some
minuses over Money, but once you get used to it is fine.

Nothing significant. Its just a bit more clunky and not as
sophisticated looking. Getting investments to correctly automaticaly
download was a bit fiddly, but once you've done it once its OK. You
can download a 100 transactions limited free trial and can test the
import functionality;etec without using up the 100 transactions.
There is an active forum which solved all my queries, but its always
difficult getting used to something new when you've been using
something for years..

In my case I can use much wider date ranges whereas Money really
slowed up when I got over six months or so. The reporting is fine and
the homepage can be tailored in much the same way as Money with I
think better graphic representation.
