Does anyone know how to get the new symbol option quotes into the Portfolio
Manager within MS Money? The symbol format changed on 1/25/2010 from the old
format (ex.. Dell february 13 put was .dlyno) which is no longer valid.

Go out to MSN Money and loop up the Options chain:
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor...sp?Symbol=DELL

Don't know whether or not those new symbols will work within Money though?

Mark, I tried doing that earlier and there didn't seem to have enough space
within Money field for the symbol. When I enter the entire symbol with the
back slashes, it gets truncated. I assumed the updates come from the
moneycentral source you referenced. I'll keep looking.
thanks

Paul - I'm having the same problem and am not happy about it. In addition to
Mark's suggestion (looking up the option chain in MSN Money) you can also use
the symbol lookup function when adding your new option investment within MS
Money. That will find the option chain, and displays the new symbols. Only
problem is, when the new symbol is saved by MS Money it doesn't appear to
work. The quote server must not recognize it. It appears that the Symbol
field in MS Money is 12 chars. long, but the new symbols are 15 chars. long.
MS Money saves something, but displays only the first 6 chars. or so,
followed by "...". It's hard to know what it actually saved behind the
scenes. I suspect MS Money needs a "fix" in order to get it to work with the
new option symbol format. Has anyone else found a solution?

Bob A., I came to the same conclusion that the symbol field in MS Money is
only 12 characters long and gets truncated. You can enter 15 characters then
you get a beep but when you go back to look at what you entered it only
displays 12. I agree that MS Money needs to get this fixed to work around
this problem. I don't see any alternative.

Do you KNOW that the MS servers carry the option price that interests you?

Given that MS will discontinue price downloads after 2011-01-31 I think it
is highly unlikely that they will create patches to increase the symbol
field length from 12 to 15 (or more) characters for obsolescent versions of
Money and it is beyond belief that they will create patches for obsolete
versions.

An alternative is to enter option prices manually.

Teabag, I believe your right, we will have to update the prices manually.
MSFT will most likely not create a patch to extend the symbol field length
although it does appear to be a simple change.

Do I understand this correctly? That after Jan 31, 2011 MS Money will no
longer get any stock quotes updated? Tracking portfolio value is one of the
main reasons I use MS Money.

Agreed teabag. Yes - I do know that the MS servers carry the options prices,
and as I had mentioned you can look up the options chains (and prices) when
adding a new option investment from within MS Money. I guess I'm just
expressing my frustration with the fact that MS Money is slowly becoming less
and less useful to track investments, and as you mentioned that will be
capped off by the discontinuation of price downloads in 2011. For now it
appears that manually entering option prices as I've started doing is the
only recourse. Very sad. Money is an excellent product for the most part.
