I just upgraded from Quicken Deluxe 2011 to Quicken Deluxe 2012.
Everything seems OK, except for download of historical prices. That
takes a very long time. I decided to download quotes, which came down in
a second or two, then it started to download historical prices as part
of the quotes download. It started before I opened up me email program,
selected the Quicken news group, and typed this post, and it is still
going on. I've tried it several times, but it takes a very long time
every time. I think it might have finished once, but I have waited for
many minutes without it completing.

I've uninstalled Quicken, and run QCleanUI. I've gone through the
security list, and turned off downloads for many securities. None of
these helped.

I then tried downloading historical prices from the security window. If
I clear the selections, and select the first 60 securities, they
download fine, and finish in a second or less. If I increase the number
to 62 or more, they fail. I tried selecting the securities after the
first 60, and they work OK, so long as I don't select too many.

This just looks like poor programming, but I'm open to any suggestions.
Right now, I'm thinking of going back to Q2011.

Last evening, I spent about two hours on chat with Intuit support. He
had me delete the price history from the validate and repair menu. Then
he had me download the historical prices again. He said it would take a
long time, but would work OK after the initial download. Unfortunately,
the following download attempt was just as long. It didn't fix the
problem, and it screwed up my net worth numbers and history. I restored
a backup, thanked him for trying, and let it go for the evening. It was
still taking between 15 and 20 minutes to download historical prices.

This morning, I downloaded prices again, and it was a bit quicker. It
took only about 2-3 minutes instead of the 15 minutes prior. During the
day, it has gotten even faster. It is not as quick as Q2011, but it is
now tolerable at about 20 seconds, followed by another 15 seconds after
the download has completed.

I can't see much that is any better than Q2011, and it is slower
overall, but it was only $19.99 with the coupon at Costco, and I would
have to upgrade eventually, so I guess it will have to do. Perhaps when
R5 is released, it will help the performance issues.
