Four job applications a day?

While in the hated ND 13 week hell, I am being pressurised into
applying for 4 jobs a day. They go and check my record and want
photocopies of my outbox to check if it's true. I am getting replies
for jobs I don't really want and are not in my jobseekers agreement.
Do they have point in forcing me to do that? The JCP taold me I don't
have to, but can the training company terminate my benefit if I don't
comply? I would normally apply for 5-6 jobs a week. They want to drop
me into an industrial estate and force me to mass-deliver copies of my
CV. This is ridicolous!

The dropping of copies of CV sounds like a nice idea, can be upwards
of 100 companies on some industrial estates.
Not so sure about 4 jobs a day, I'm suprised they are targeting so
low. Is the course part of the day only?

I do not believe you are applying for 4 genuine vacancies per day. I think
you are referring to "spec letters". I used to send out about 20 a day. The
same cover letter and CV sent to various companies listed in the Yellow
Pages, Thomson Local etc asking if they had any jobs going.

The company cant stop your benefit, they send a report to your ND adviser
saying you are not meeting the requirements of the course, your ND adviser
will sanction you.

Good luck with the industrial estate run, the summer is here so you should
enjoy being out in the fresh air.

Back in the last recession under Thatcher my 18 year old nephew came down
from up north to stay with us. Every day he went out in the morning and
visited as many factories as he could, and he kept going back day after day.
It took him several days but eventually someone said come in a job has just
come up.

Doing the rounds can be soul destroying, but can be rewarding.

Most full time working days are approx 8 hours, five days pw. Some
longer, if you'r struggling to send four job applications per day which
can't take more than half an hour each, maybe you are not up to working?

Whilst I'm inclined to agree with many posters that these schemes are
largely a waste of time + taxpayers money, I hardly think moaning about
it reflects well, after all it's not like you have a job to goto.

That is how I always got work, but I had a trick up my sleeve. Select a few
companies that you wouldnt mind woking for, then keep going back to the same
companies every week, that shows them you want to work and you are really
serious about getting a job. They will get to know you quite well and
eventually one of them will say yes. It is the only way to get a job these
days, you have to pester them to death, and you cant do that sitting around
in some shite A4e office.
