This has started happening to me every time I try to start Money. I can
start it by launching the sample.mny file through Windows Explorer, but any
attempt to open my real money file fails. I've tried repairing it to another
file, when the log file reports no broken records in the original. I can't
open the new "repaired" file either. I've tried installing the latest
version of MDAC, to no avail.
The App Signature from the error report dialog box is

AppName: msmoney.exe AppVer: 12.0.0.613 ModName: unknown

ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

Help appreciated!.....Neil

Bob, thanks very much. I think I have it fixed, but it's an interesting
tale (like being in plane in a thunderstorm is interesting!).

I'd already run the repair file tool via the Money menu option without it
finding any errors. I also ran it (salv.exe) directly from the Money\system
folder - again no joy.

I'd also, over the weekend, downloaded the salvage zip from the MS KB page
(several times), but whenever I tried to run it WIndows complained that it
wasn't a valid Win32 executable. Having read the webpage you pointed me at,
I gave it another shot this morning. It downloaded and ran OK, and I
extracted it to a new folder. I found that the salv.exe was V1.0.0.1, dated
July 2002, while the one that came with Money was V12.0.0.613, dated June
2003. Whatever, I decided to run it, and it found what the newer version
didn't, a "broken record in the systems table".

I could then open the file successfully, although it was very fragile and
tended to suffer the same problem frequently, requiring a re-salvage. I'm a
relatively recent convert from Quicken, and my Money file was based on a
conversion from my Quicken file that contained several years' data. So I did
an archive back from 31/12/2002, and the file now, so far, seems stable,
although it's not that much smaller (13Mb vs 16Mb) than before. I do have
around 50 accounts and about 50 bills & deposits in there.

So, thanks for leading me towards a fix.

Regards....Neil
