Does this need notifying

  1. Asking on behalf of my sister.

She wants to start selling avon to get back into the swing of life after
suffering some health problems. SHes unemployed, claming Income support,
council tax and housing benefit, and gets childs tax and child benefit as
    she has 1 child.

She just wanted to know if she has to notify income support that she is
    earning some extra money ?

She has to, as it is classed as earnings. She will also need to inform
the DWP of the hours she works as 16 hours or more will mean she will
not be able to claim Income Support, though she will be able to claim
    Working Tax Credit instead.

She must notify them if she starts working.

Years ago when I was unemployed, but sometimes did some odd hours, I
notified the Jobcentre (not sure it was a jobcentre in those days, might
have been the "Labour"). Anyway, all I had to do each week I signed was to
take my payslip in for the previous week and they adjusted my dole week by
week to take into account the earnings. Some weeks it didn't affect me at
all. other weeks they would dock a couple of pounds. I never did understand
    the earnings rules though.

Be too easy nowadays I expect.
