I am considering starting a tax preparation business. I live in WI, USA and need to know what the requirements are. I know that I need to obtain a business license, although I am not sure which business licenses I need. I also know I need a PTIN. Can anyone tell me details about business licenses for WI, federal, state, and/or local and any other requirements as far as education and licensure are concerned? Also, what are the rules as far as business names go? If there doesn't seem to be a similar name nearby, am I safe?
