I need to use some kind of software based on open standards to keep, crunch and report the numbers of my small business.

If auditors want to check what is going on with some account payable or receivable, they could drill down to each single item and even see a scan of the receipt or stub if it comes to that.

There are certain features I would love to see in whatever software I decide to use: the scanning, OCR and parsing of receipts into databases. That saves lots of time but I have never seen such a thing. Also, do you know about a escrow + accounting software online service?

I am not a business man (more like a scientist + techie), yet I totally believe in openness and -total- transparency

Any suggestions?
