Working remotely...

I have several users that have networked versions of Quickbooks.
At one office, they have it running on a terminal server & users can
log into that remotely & work fine.
In another office, I have it running on one users computer & they have
the data drive shared out.
All client #2's computers are Vista Home (too cheap to buy the Pro
version!), & it works in the office, but not as smoothly as a client/
server network does.
Now they want to be able to work from home!
If they had desktops, I could use something like Log Me In & set them
up to work from home, but they all have laptops!
What they are wanting to do is to VPN into the company network & work
in QB that way, which would involve mapping a network driver over a
VPN connection.
I see this working very sluggishly, at best.
Anyone doing this?
I am planning on telling them to break out the checkbook & buy a
server & set up terminal server connections, unless someone has a
better idea.
Any advice appreciated!

I use LogMeIn from both my home laptop and my iPhone. Works great!

I only have laptops and use LogMeIn Pro. All you need is a solid internet
connection and you can log into any computer on your account.

I did get LMI Ignition for my iTouch but never could get the hang of the
small screen or lack of mouse/keyboard on the devise.

I use LogMeIn. It does not matter what state the workstation is in,
sleeping, awake or at the Windows login screen. It just works.

That is not totally correct. If the computer has gone into hibernation mode
then you won't be able to connect with LMI.

I had this happen to one of my client's PC. I had to get someone to go over
to their office and "wake up" the computer in order to connect to it. I
changed the Power management settings to never allow it to go into
Hibernation mode to avoid running into this problem again.

Perhaps that was true, but testing this situation in my office with the
lastest version of Logmein installed I can remote in even if workstation is
in hybernation mode.

Just out of curiosity, did you have to give all
your terminal server users Windows administrators
rights?
