2.0 Import Utility

Will QS import work for 2.0? If not then will there be an import utility
with in 2.0? If not is there anything else?

Thanks
Brent

There are changes to the database in 2.0. These are primarily related
to Matrix items, so you may be OK for importing Customers or 'standard'
items. QS Import has always been a non supported tool, so there is no
guarantee that it is ever going to be updated. I haven't seen any info
one way or the other regarding QS Import and 2.0 yet - if you want to
give it a shot, try it on a sample database before going "live"...

Retail Realm has a much more robust import tool that is customized for
RMS. I don't know if that has been updated for 2.0 yet, but they have
committed to updating all of their add-ins, so it will be soon.

Many people have used more generic importing tools like EMS Import (<
$40 last time I checked). These are powerful, but you have to figure
out all of the RMS specifics on your own.

Personally, I use SQL Server Integration Services (formerly DTS or Data
Transformation Service), but I've been known to write HTML code in
Notepad too...

It will probably work.

MS hasn't formally supported any data import for RMS in along time, if ever.
Certainly not since before v1.2.

If it doesn't work, there are other ways. Customer import, so long as there
are no A/R balances, is pretty simple. With A/R balances is trickier. Item
import requires you to populate at least two tables: Item and SupplierList.
I would advise against importing any kit or assembly items.

If QSC Import fails, post again here and somebody will help.

Any long-term harm in just pasting records onto the bottom of the ITEM
table?

I did a test and it worked just fine.
I have a table in EXCEL that matches the ITEM table and I copy out of
there and paste it.

Brent,

I tested the QS import today on v. 2.0.
I imported about 100k items (standard items) without any problem...

I had RMS 2.0 installed on new system last week. My installer used QSC
import utility on my data. Suppliers/Customers/Parent and Single Items went
in with no trouble what so ever, about 4950 items. The children hit an
immediate snag and returned all errors. Turns out, it was a data issue not
an QSC import/RMS 2.0 compatibility issue. I had duplicate categories
created. In my old POS as long as the categories where under a different
department, there was no conflict. No big deal, made some cosmetic changes
to category names and the items imported perfect on the next pass. By the
way, does anybody have a list of error code/definitions for QSC import? My
installer did not know what the error code stood for, therefore we had to
"figure out" the problem ourselves.

Tom- Maybe you can answer this for me. I am having trouble importing simple
items using the QSC import tool. I looked at the sample CSV. I took the
headers and copied them into a blank work book. I entered my items below
these headers and saved the file as a .csv. I mapped the fields in the same
order as my workbook. Then tried to import and only received errors. Is there
a different order that the headers should be in? Or do you see anything else
that I am doing wrong?
I have a single store ver 1.2. I received my 2.0, but have not updated yet.
