When you try to apply the update, there is a screen that pops up asking
if you want to backup your data. The problem is that the popup backup
screen is blocked by the update screen and you can't see it. If you
minimize the update screen, you can then see the backup screen and then
check the appropriate block on the backup screen and then the update
Your solution worked for me too. I had two qw.exe processes running.
Trying to get your solution from the Quicken site is impossible.
I worked on this problem for 2 hours last night trying to update:
- using the automatic update when prompted about the new release.
- using the help | update commands.
- going to the site and doing a manual download of the update.
Nothing worked. Strange that Quicken doesn't either correct this
problem or warn about it on the FAQ web site page.
BTW, I was asked to do a backup only on the first update try, which I
did. Succeeding update tries did not asked if I wanted to do a backup.
