USA Accounting arguments in the field right now?

Hi, I am a student who wants to become an accountant. I am thinking of writing a research paper for my English class about a topic in the accounting world that people are arguing about right now. Maybe not arguing, but there is discussion and conversation around the topic that I could research.

There's a lot of conversation going on between standard setters of US GAAP, and standard setters of IFRS in their attempts to try and align the two sets of accounting standards. So you won't be short of material if you want to write a paper about that or even just about one of their convergence ideas on a particular standard.
