accounting career

I'm a senior in high school and I have taken every accounting class at my high school. I know it's what I want to do but I don't know exactly what to do next. I plan on getting a degree in accounting. Does it matter if it is a BA or a BS? What other things can I do to gain experience or set myself up to be successful? Are there certain certifications you should have as an accountant besides being a CPA?
