I just finished my 4 year accounting degree. And during that time I have:

-had a class in which we used Peachtree software
-been the Treasurer of an honors society
-worked as a volunteer for VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance)

But I've never gotten an internship. Is that something that you need to be a current student to apply for? I'm wondering if it is better to just apply for entry level temp accounting positions. Between everything I've mentioned, is it fair to say that I have 1+ years of "experience"?

Well, no.
"1 year of experience" means you have worked at a full time job for 1year. To try to claim this for what you mentioned is not going to have a potential employer think well of you and your integrity. Best to be straightforward with the experience you DO have.

ok. So if I see a position that says "minimum X years of experience" I should look elsewhere (which is like 95% of the openings I see, including the entry level ones)
