Advice required about dwp

Joseph

I received a letter from the DWP today as me to call them regarding changing
to income support.

They have asked me to call them and I don't know why or what they want to
discuss.

It looks to be a office based in glasgow.

Nothing have changed with me or the reason why I am on income support and
dla

I see so much on the news about the welfare system changing could they be
trying to re-access me on the phone or something ?

Any ideas what this might be about. I will call tomorrow to see but am a
little anxious about it and not looking forward to what it is about, its
never good when they want a chat from past experience.

I just got a letter from the DWP too. I am on "Income Support on the
grounds of illness or disability" but the DWP are replacing this
benefit with "Employment and Support Allowance". Incapacity Benefit
and SDA are also affected. An interview may be required, for anyone
changing to ESA (which will be all disabled or ill people).

The whole thing makes me feel sick and I find it very stressful. I
just don't believe that the DWP are really going to provide me with
the support I need, under ESA.
If they put me on JSA I'll probably go back to being suicidal. I
really don't want that to happen.

Does anyone have insight into what is likely to happen to the
defenceless sick and disabled? How many/what proportion will be forced
to go to interviews? How many will not make the grade to receive ESA?
Are job centre staff still as incompetent and horrible as they were in
2006?

It's a bit more clear now.

What will happen is
1) Someone will speak to you on the phone
2) They will send you a form to fill in, which will help decide if you
can get ESA. Hopefully at this point will be granted ESA.
3) A "health care professional" may asses you, and report back to
jobcentre.
4) Not sure what will happen if you are not granted ESA, except that
"You may be entitled to Jobseekers allowance, income support for other
reason, or pension credit."

I don't understand what is going on. I had my assessment a couple of
months ago and now 2 letters. I don't know if people are turned down
for ESA but that's not what happened to me. I will be getting ESA but
I will be in a 'work related activity group' and not a 'support
group'. I don't know what this means.
