Hi there,
I am planning to setup up a small trading company with the total
capital of £2000
I wish to sell various widgets on e-bay and my own e-shop.
Can you please suggest me if I shall require:
1) Registration of my company with and department?
2) Registration with VAT?
3) Do the safety regulations applicable on me. I am planning to start
from my house (a room taken on rent).

Any help would be highly appreciated.
Best regards,
John

Company? Like at Companies House or simply a business?
2) Registration with VAT?
Not until your turnover reaches £68k. Widgets are VATable.

Maybe, widgets can be dangerous when left alone.

Thanks for your reply.
Well, not a company but business. I wish to start as a sole trading
proprietorship firm.

Well, the items I wish to trade in are going to be metal parts such as
poultry metal equipments (houses, cages etc) all made of metal.
Nothing hazardous!

If you are not registered as self employed you need to register with
HMRC

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/selfemployed/iwtregister-as-self-employed.htm

I don't think you have to do anything then.
Thanks a lot. Your help is much appreciated. I visited the link also
you provided for self-employed. Just out of interest, I got one more
questions: How is it one have a short time or full time job also for a
short period (say for 3-4 months in year in order to support the
business in the beginning)?

Looking forward to hear from you.
Best regards,
