American Express Import?

Anyone using American Express in Quicken? How does the download work? Can
you do it directly from the Quicken softward, or must you log into the
American Express site first and download from there?

thanks

Direct download from onestep update works fine (so far, I have only had an
American Express card a few months). Maybe it's gotten better, but there
were many complaints about Am Express (DAGS!).

AmEx one step update downloads work just like any other financial institution
for most AmEx cards. If you have a corporate card, AmEx has been saying those
cards will be downloadable "soon" for several years now.

In spite of the fact that AmEx has been reporting that Corporate Cards will
work someday as mentioned by previous post, I 've actually been downloading
from my AmEx corp card for more than four years. Occassionally I have to call
AmEx about something (for instance, we get a new number on renewal, not sure if
the company or AmEx cause this) and find the Cust Service people are stunned to
find it works, but then reset my new number for online access and I haven't had
any problems. It sure is more convenient to track my business expenses this
way. I am not sure what might have made my card work against their stated
service offering, so I can't offer any suggestions, but you might try calling
CS and asking them to turn it on and see if it works.

I 've got a Costco/AmEx card and everything downloads fine with no problems
(dang...I sure shouldn't have said that!!)

My AmEx card works more or less from one step update. I have discovered two
flaws.

Once I could not reconcile and noticed that a few transactions have not been
downloaded, so I had to go to the site and perform a manual download and
import of the data. That fixed that.

Then recently I took up an offer for some reward points if I would sign up
for their credit offering (Sign&Travel, or something like that). That threw
a wrench in the works. The resolution to the problem is to create a 2nd
American Express account and to differentiate the two accounts by appending
a "1" (one) after the original account number and a "2" after the new
account number, the account number being otherwise the same account number.
Then Quicken will download all the transactions it can find into the new
account and you have to manually delete them (135 transactions in my case).
After that the account should reportedly work ok. I will have to wait and
see next time I charge something over $200, which is the cutoff for
automatically moving stuff onto the S&T portion of the account.

It will work either way. With Q2004, your one-step login and password is
the same as what you use at the web site. When I upgraded from Q2001, I
had to delete all my cards and some bank accounts from on-line updating
and re-enable them so they work the new way.

I had a small problem with Discover last month, but I am too good a
customer for them *not* to accomodate me.
