Im currently working as a AP specialist. However I want to move to Accountant as I completed my CPA. Wherever I apply they say I do not have General accounting experience.
What should I do?
Also.. If I take a break for 6-9 months for personal reasons /family will it affect my career? Will I get a job back. Im in Seattle area WA USA. Thank you!!

AP to Accountant is actually a fair leap. In the first instance I would suggest applying for Assistant Accountant roles. This is still fairly ambitious but you may get lucky if you apply at smaller companies. If you can get that, fantastic. You'll be on your way to Accountant in no time. However failing that, you may need to transition first from AP specialist to an all-rounder role like Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant before moving up to Assistant Accountant.

Whether you will be allowed to take a 6-9 month break will depend on your employer. To be frank, yes, it will affect your career because the absence will cause you to fall behind your cohort. It won't be impossible to land another job, but it may raise concerns. This isn't to say that you should let these reasons outweigh your personal/family issues. You have to do what you have to do. Good luck to you.
