Appealling Self Assessment

K

Kevin

If I appeal my self assessment will the appeal be limited to the error
in the assessment or does the fact that I appeal leave the IR open to
do a full investigation.
Because of false information given to me by the DWP regarding taxable
benefit I know that my assessment will be incorrect. Should I just
accept this and keep quiet and pay the extra tax knowing that I wont
face a full investigation (not that I have anything to hide), or lodge
an appeal to get the assessment correct.
I had a full investigation a few years back which came out with the IR
owing me money but did still cost me about £500 in accounts fees.
