A local University have a position advertised for an apprenticeship in Finance which I'm very keen to go for, the only problem is that they don't have much in the job description beside "You will work under the direct instruction of the Accounts Manager" so I thought I'd look for some advice on here before asking and applying for the position

You have two related cues. It is a university and has to do with accounts. So very likely they mean student tuition accounts and posting amounts to those accounts.

I'd apply and discuss it as part of the interview.

I've actually applied for positions that I thought I wasn't qualified for, and then discovered the work was well within my scope. And I've had the inverse experience too--applying for a position that I thought I was qualified when it was well outside of my scope. Just apply and see where it leads.
