Automatic stay--who does it apply to?

If a cause of action arises against the debtor AFTER filing bankruptcy
can a plaintiff file a complaint against the debtor-defendant or does
the Stay apply? I am under the impresstion that the Stay would only
apply if the COA arose pre-filing.

If the cause of action arises after you filed, the stay does not apply.
