California sales tax increased by 0.25 cents starting January 1, 2013. I purchased and paid for an item December of 2012 but the item was not available for pick up till January 2013. When I went to pick up the item, the store said I have to pay the remainder of the sales tax. I tried to explain that the item was paid for in 2012 but they said that the item does not belong to me till I pick it up and since I am picking up in 2013, I have to pay the remaining tax. Does this seem legitimate?
