cannot restore from former data files

my drive was failing so i copied data from a W98 PC to a new PC running
XP,but using peachtree 2003, I cannot restore from former data files,
it
says "file invalid".

any solutions?

What version of Peachtree did you use on the W98 PC? They need to be the
same version for you open the file. You can upgrade to the next year's
version but it must be the same program version. Complete Accounting can not
open regular Accounting.

ok,got it restored from old damaged drive,it has to convert from ver
6.0. the only cd i have is ver 2003, so problem is how to get this data
off old disc saved onto new running XP at ver 2003?

what is the sequence of versions 6.0. 8.0 .2003?

Here's how I had to do it going from 6.0 to 2003 (I never had 8.0):

In 2003 make a new company using the New Company wizard. All you really need
is the company name for PT to create the necessary files. Close PT. Then
copy the files from version 6 into the folder containing the newly created
2003 company. Now open up PT and open up that company. It should detect that
you are working with a lower version and start the conversion automatically.
Depending on the size of the company file it may take an hour to complete
the conversion.

-set his date to todays current date,when he tries to create an
invoice,it says cannot,as in future time..?

-also ,despite following the help,manual,I do not see how you can
update accounting period,its greyed out..

-also PT seems to offer very little options in viewing,ie color
layout,size header fonts etc ,where are these preferences

Check the system date: options>>>change system date

To change the accounting period: tasks>>>change accounting period
To see period at bottom of screen: Option>>view custom toolbar

You can change color scheme here: Options>>global (general tab).

I don't know about changing header fonts, etc. You can change fonts in
reports by going to Reports and selecting Style while highlighting a given
report.
