Can't remove sales tax payment... permanently

QB 2010 Pro
I entered a sales tax payment check that turned out to have an
incorrect amount.
One cannot modify these and the suggestion is to delete and replace.
I deleted it (many times!)
Then, when I go to create a new one, the program says I have a credit
and WILL NOT allow the creation of a new check.
Then, when I go to figure out why there would be a credit, the
old/deleted check is BACK!!!
It would be nice to know how to deal with this.

Don't have that version and don't use QB for sales tax payments, but
will it let you void that transaction and bypass it that way?

Just like I said, the suggestion is to delete it. But deleting only
works briefly....

I have never tried what you are trying to do. But, I have had problems where
I have made a change and it didn't eliminate the problem. In most cases I
was not going all the way back to the source entry, as long as the original
source entry exists nothing will work permanently as the software will keep
trying to process it.

I don't know if this will help or not, but it may be worth a try. It can
also be a lot of work to dig back to the original entry, it may not be where
you think.
