where is the cap gains tax rate applied? I noticed that schedule D (adding short and long term gains) shows the actual gain, but then that amount is transferred to income on the first page of my tax form and it is added to regular income. Does that mean that cap gains are being taxed at the marginal tax rate?

Thank you for your advice.

Never mind. I got the answer. The computations are in the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet. The cap gains tax rate was correctly applied at 15%.
