CGT & selling shares

I want to sell some shares, about £2,000-worth - Aviva and Alliance &
Leicester - to raise some funds.
One of the companies say they'll sell them for me for a fee of £30. Any
advice on any cheaper ways of selling?

Also, do I pay tax (CGT?) on the proceeds of the sale (all the half-yearly
dividends over the years have always been paid to me net of tax)? At what
rate will I pay it (if liable)?

If your gains (from all sales of capital items in this tax year - not
dividends) are only £8,800, then no.
