I would like to go ahead and change my family name to my mother maiden name.
I'm 23.

My main questions are..

Are there any seriously negative aspects to changing my name? How is the
best why of going about it? And where might I be able to find more info on
this?

Many many thanks for any information.

Regards, Dave

See a solicitor ... the iirc Deed Poll process is adopted for change of surname.

A new name can simply be used without any formality, but as Richard suggests, to
make things easier with officialdom you will want a deed poll.
You DO NOT need a solicitor, nor should you pay any money to anyone else for a
poxy red-sealed version on expensive paper.

Search uk.legal and uk.legal.moderated for this topic

No negative implications I can think of ... other than perhaps your future
relationship with the
paternal side of your family.

Afterwards your biggest problem will be to change all accounts etc. to
your new name. The easiest
way will be to get a new passport (and then driving licence), change the
name on utility bills and
electoral register, and then get *new* accounts / cards etc., while
closing the old ones.
Many many thanks for your great information.

Is their any type of specific solicitor I should see about this (I've never
dealt with one before). And would you have an idea of the cost I should be
aiming for?

Many many thanks again, Dave
