Cost basis & Holding period re exercise of Rights

I owned a closed-end mutual fund traded on NYSE. It issued
one Right for each common share owned. The Rights are
transferrable and entitle holders of Rights to subscribe to
one share of common stock for each 3 Rights owned; or sold
[including Rights not sufficient to subscribe 1 share of
common]. e.g. I received 100 Rights and can subscribe to 33
common shares and sell the remaining Right. The
subscription price is 90% of the average closing prices for
the 5 days prior to expiration date of the Rights.

For the Rights that I exercise: Is my basis the price I paid
upon subscription? And my holding period starts with the
expiration date of the Rights? Or the trade date of my
underlying common shares that gives rise to these Rights?

For the one Right that I sold: What is the cost basis? And
my holding period is the trade date of my underlying common
shares that gives rise to the Rights?

TIA
