credit cards

how likely is it that one can have credit cards after
filing a chapter 7 bankruptcy? i am seriously considering
bankruptcy, but i'd rather not be able to forfeit the
convenience of ordering stuff online, etc. once it's all
over.

It's likely you would be able to get credit cards after bankruptcy if you
really want them...but for convenience purposes, I think debit cards with a
Visa/MC logo may be a better idea. You can still use them to charge things
on the net and in stores or restaurants or whatnot, but you aren't running
up credit card bills and interest...by making you pay cash, they enforce a
valuable kind of discipline.

About 100% likely. You will be deluged with credit card
applications once you file. Really.

It isn't meant to be legal advice and you shouldn't treat it as
such. If you want legal advice, speak with a local lawyer
familiar with your state's laws who can review *all* of the facts
and the law applicable to your situation.

Sort of on this same topic... does any know if there is any truth to the
fact that Gas cards (like exxon, citgo, sunoco) are easier to get than a
"regular" bank credit card?

I think this bull is a lie told by ambulance-chasing attorneys to make
bankruptcy look more attractive for you to file. Then afeter you do
file, you are screwed! Think twice before you take this step. I filed
and am sorry I did!

While you're response didn't answer my question at all... I must say that
we've been discharged for about five months now, and filing this bankruptcy
was the best move we've ever made. no phone calls no harassment, in these
five months we've got a steady stream of money going into our savings
account, we take a portion of every dollar we get for the sole purpose of
saving. we still pay our car bill religiously, we have a Bank of America
secured credit card which we pay off monthy. I can't think of a better
solution.
