CTC appeal

Gosh I am SO fed up! In February 2005 I wrote to the CTC office after
being told by them that they had overpaid me for the 03/04 tax year
(total nonsense, since they had already sent me out a finalised figure
in June 2004 after receiving figures from P60 for the relevant year, and
nothing had changed between June 2004 and February 2005 for the tax year
2003/04, so Lord only knows why they suddenly tried to claim back almost
£300).

Having received no reply by late March I rang them and they said that no
mention of the letter I sent had been added to my details on their
computer system so I needed to complete a TC846 "request to reconsider
recovery of tax credits" form, which they would send out.

I completed this form as soon as I received it, and sent it off to them
in early April - obtaining a receipt of postage from the post office. I
phoned them 3 weeks later and was told nothing had been received (what
the hell do they do with their mail? throw it away unopened?. I said I
would wait one more week then call them back.

I called them back on Wednesday morning and was told I could escalate
the matter by requesting a call from the complaints team. I requested
this and was told I would be called back within 48 hours.

I called again today after 72 hours of deafening silence and all they
could say was they would put in a request for the complaint to be
escalated again. When I asked what I could do if no one called me back
this time I was told .....NOTHING!!! there is no other phone number I
can use, no other address to write to, if they choose not to call me
back, or follow up my appeal, then I am helpless!

What a useless farce! Any ideas or advice anyone please?

TIA

Get the name of everyone you speak to. Write it all down. Send it your
MP.

You're complaining. I appealed my overpayment on 1 Sept 2004 and still
they have done nothing. For avoidance of any doubts, that is 8 months
of doing nothing. It is just as well that no Labour party canvessor
dared to show their face at my house in the run-up to the election.

What an appalling state of affairs huh?....I've decided to write to my
MP...and copy the letter to the Pay Master General, who is in overall
charge of the CTC department (was Dawn Primarolo prior to the election,
I need to check it hasn't changed - does any one know?)...Good luck!

Don't expect much joy from your MP, especially if they are Labour.
Hardly likely to be critical of their own creation. As for Dawn Prim,
what a tosser, I remember her on tv when CTC was launched fending off
complaints that 1.25 million people weren't getting CTC. Her response
was that that was only 25% of the total, so a target of 75% was ok.
