Database error in POS 2.0

M

MrBill

I just started getting this msg "A problem occurred while checking your store
database." Now it won't let me back up.

This has been going on for a week - my [stupid] salespeople just told me.
Now, it's too late to restore from backup w/o redoing a week's worth of
receipts. Nightmare.

Anybody know a way out of this???

How old is your database (and how big)?
Before getting into the nuts and bolts of the database, try connecting to it
from the store admin and reindexing it.

Thanks for the reply... I already tried to reindex. Still got the error msg.
I'm not at the store right now so I can't give you the specifics, but POS was
installed in March of 06 and has maybe 2500 inventory items. Only 1 register,
1 machine. Everything's functioning properly except for the error msg and the
fact that it won't back up (even after skipping the database check). Excuse a
dumb question... is the database backed up on a MS server?

Thx, Bill

Bill,

No, MS doesn't back up your files.

Did you or did you not try Database Check? If not, do it

Manager | Tools | Database | Check

Should always run a check before a re-index.

Also backup more often, like daily. We setup our clients to backup hourly.

Hi Jeff,

Database Check is what gave me the error msg. We do backup daily. It's just
that neither of my salesgirls let me know about the msg until the db hadn't
been backed up for about a week. Any idea what's causing the msg???

Thx, Bill

There was no error msg when I re-indexed. Just the error msg when I do the
database check.
