Dealing with complaints

I dont kinow if you get the same standard of service as Accountants, but if
so how do you deal with it?
The Tax Credit Office made an error processing my tax credit claim (CTC)
It took 6 letters and 5 phone calls from my Accountant before they agreed
the error and paid me the underpayment.
Undertandably, my accountant charged me for his time etc, and advised me to
seek a conpensation payment to cover this amount (less than £100)
Same story, no replies to letters etc, and this has now been going on for
over 6 months. The last time I wrote direct to the Director of the Tax
Credit Offcie but all that happened was a yet another stock reply from
"Customer Services" saying they hoped to be able to reply to me by 18th
December !
This is now the 4th holding letter.
Do I just give up, or is their another alternative to getting some response.

Thank you

Get a copy of COP1 and write to the adjudicator.

HMRC are totally incompetent. Unfortunately, the management of HMRC
don't have any experience of running anything successfully.

The managers think of maybe five reasons why operating a certain way
should be more efficient but don't think about the 50 reasons why it
is less efficient. Everyone else is either not consuilted or too
scared to disagree with the idiots.

I telephoned them and asked for COP 1 and advised that I would be taking the
matter to the adjudicator.
Within an hour I got a phone call saying the payment had been agreed and
would be with me within 28 days

Many thanks for your help.

Amazing how quick the paperwork can be found under that large pile :)
