Deleting Investment accounts from Fidelity

G

Gary

I was able to download my 401K and IRA from Fidelity to Money but the info
was not correct. Fidelity told me to try and start over so I tried to delete
the the accounts by going to "change account detail"--"delete account" and it
seemed like it was gone. When I went to "Add a new account" and went through
the process it not only created "IRA" but also created "IRA #2". I thought
I could merge the two accounts but that didn't work either. How can I get
rid of all of my investment accounts and all memory of them without deleting
my checking and savings account?

To cancel online service for an account,
AccountList->ManageOnlineServices. Click the account. Click
StopUsingOnlineServices.

Then delete the accounts.

Maybe I didn't explain the situation correctly. I want to use the online
service. The problem now is that I have 4 copies of all of my accounts, so I
want to get rid of all of the accounts and start from scratch. Everytime I
have tried this and thought that I had deleted the account and started over
it would bring up the old account and the new account too.

I just tried what you told me to do and I now have 4 copies of all of the
investment accounts.

Delete from Money all the accounts you don't want. Then turn off the
online services. Then turn on the online services. You are going to
get a screen on the first download which asks you to match what
Fidelity has with what is in your Money file. Match them correctly.
Note: Fidelity keeps sending downloads for accounts which you closed
on Fidelity for several months. So, if you closed a 401K and moved it
to a new IRA, you are going to get the downloads for the closed
account for several months. All you can do is close the account in
Money so it doesn't show up in the portfolio. -- Howard

Howard, the person before you told me to do the same thing but in the
opposite order. If the order matters I will try it your way but it didn't
work deleting the accounts and then turning off online service. It seem like
even though you delete an account the update portion of Money still thinks
you have that account. Before posting this I tried what you said by turning
off online serve then going to "Change account details" --"Delete account".
I deleted all accounts associated with fidelity. Then I went to "Add new
account" and went through the steps but never got a screen that asks me to
match the fidelity accounts with my Money accounts. It did bring up all my
account but also created the duplicate accounts. So I am back at square one.
I have tried something new so maybe we can work it a different way. I have
merged the duplicate accounts into one of the accounts (and renamed them what
the original account was without the #2-#4) but when I do an update from
fidelity all of the accounts that I merged into one come back with nothing in
them.

The online services have nothing to do with the accounts which money
tracks. You first need to delete all the transactions from an
account, then you need to delete the account. Leave only the accounts
you want. Close Money. Open Money and then go to online services.
Remove the online services for Fidelity. It is NOT done in the Choose
Information to Update screen by unchecking something. It is done in
the Manage Online Services by turning off the online services for
Fidelity. Turn them off and then turn them on again. It will begin
from square one by asking you to enter your userid and password and
then it downloads all the accounts whcih Fidelity has for you. From
the descriptions you have posted, it appears that you haven;t gotten
to this. Even if you have fifty copies of the same account in Money,
the first download after turning things off and on is going to ask you
which Fiedelity account matches which Money account. -- Howard

Howard,
I know you are not going to believe this but this is exactly what I did. I
went to Banking -- Account List and left clicked on the first account. That
brought up all the transactions. I then right clicked (one at a time) all
the transactions selected delete and left clicked. I then went back to the
Account List and right clicked on the Fidelity account that I just deleted
all the transactions from and selected delete and right clicked. I did this
with all of the fidelity accounts until there were no more accounts. The
only thing left was my checking and savings account. I then closed Money and
then reopened Money and all of the accounts that I had just deleted were
back. I think I followed your instructions to the letter so I don't know
what to say.

I can't add anything else. Why don't you try exporting the two
accounts you want to save, creating a new money database file, and
importing the two accounts. -- Howard
