I should know the answer to this, but I want a second opinion. My company has ventured into selling plumbing and tile. We purchased display furniture for the consignment inventory (plumbing and tile samples in our showroom and in others). I need to know if I simply add the cost of the display furniture to the consignment inventory. Or, do I need to make those display cases an asset and depreciate them?

I hope my question makes sense. I appreciate your help.

I'm new here by the way. I am well versed in Peachtree Accounting so I will be glad to hang out here in the future to help others. I had no idea such forums existed! Good to know!

The first point simply add the cost of the display furniture to the consignment inventory. That's will be correct in this regard.
I strongly refused that those display cases an asset and depreciate them.
