Document numbers are lost in converting

When I create a quote, it assigns it a document number. When I convert that
quote to a sales order, it assigns it a new document number. Then, when I
convert that sales order to an invoice, it again changes the document number.
Is there anyway to retain the same document number from quote to invoice? If
not, I will just impliment a reference number instead. By the way, I
absolutely love this program. I have learned to customize this program to
fulfill my needs.

In Company menu -> Preferences -> Company tab -> Allow duplicate document
numbers -> Can be turned on/off. Turning this on would enable to create
multiple documents of the same type with same document numbers. When the
sales order is converted to an invoice, the invoice's document number can be
changed to the same number as the sales order and then saved.

Would there be any way to add an option in the Company menu -> Preferences ->
Company tab to "Save document numbers when converting"? Maybe in an update or
future edition? I'm sure I would not be the only one who would appreciate
that option. Any possibilties?

A couple of thoughts.

In the quote / sales order / and invoice form there is a command Transaction
History which will give you a list of the documents that were created from
this one, or from which this one was created. this makes it easier to find
the invoice(s) for your sales order or the sales order for your invoice.

One way to create a consistent id across these documents would be to use the
reference field, which is copied across to the next document, or to add your
own customer id field, which would also be copied to the next document.

Great suggestion Lance, thanks!
One more wuestion though. Where can I post suggestions to the Dev team?
Things like:
1) Adding 1-2 more multi-line text fields in the "user defined fields."
Right now there is only one of them.

2) The possiblity of adding "User-defined fields" and other options to the
"Financial History" tab in the customer area.

3) The possibilty of adding the option to "Save document numbers when
converting"

Suggestions can be entered on this newsgroup. We have people who read
through the entries looking for suggestions that seem reasonable. Some of
the suggestions we received have been implemented for our next version, but
not everything everyone suggested could be done the next release. We keep a
list of the good ideas folks suggest, so that whatever we cannot get done
this time, can be considered when planning for later releases.

The beta version for our next release will soon be available for use. Folks
who sign up to be beta testers will be able to get the new version, see what
is in it, report any problems they find in it into our bug tracking system,
and enter any features suggestions they have.

If you want to sign up to be a beta tester, see the instruction in the
posting at
