Drop Ship

Mellow

Is it me or does SBA not really cater for drop shipping. Simply changing your
company address on the purchase order before sending it is such an
afterthought. When the email (PDF or Word) opens it shows the customer
address as you entered it but also displays your own company name and phone
number with it!?

We use to just edit in word but now that we can finally send via PDF that is
not an option.

There should be select customer / create a new customer function on the PO
creation screen. Also after you e-mail the PO and later want to open it to
see who it was shipped to… nope your own company info is back.

Please tell me I am missing the obvious and that it is not just another case
of developers that does not have real life small business experience. Silly
really.

This is a known issue. The work-around is to use word templates - the
following example is for invoices but is extremely similar in concept:

One way - there are several ways to work with the templates:

1. Menu->Customers->Manage Word Templates
2. In dialog: Manage Word Templates:
a. Invoice radio button should be selected
b. In the list of invoices - ex: Invoice Product - Lines.doc
c. Click on the Modify button on the right hand side.
3. Edit the word tempate that comes up to be whatever you want.
4. Save it: Menu->File Save:
a. ex: MyLateInvoice.doc
b. Click on the "Save" button.
c. Close MS Word.
5. Back on the Manage Microsoft Word Templates dialog:
a. Click on the "refresh" button on the right hand side.
b. VERIFY: You should see your new "MyLateInvoice.doc" alphabetically on
the list.
c. Click on the "Close" button.

Now to use this with an invoice:
1. In your list of invoices: Menu->Customers->Customer Lists->Invoices:
a. Click on your desired late invoice to send.
b. Right-click on this invoice and select "Print"
c. On the "Print Options" select the radio button "Word template"
d. Click on the button to the right of the radio button: "Templates..."
e. Click on your late payment invoice: MyLateInvoice.doc
f. Click on the "Select" button on the bottom
g. Click on the "OK" button.

Hope this helps.

Look in F1 help - Word templates is a alternate printing method for Office
Accounting - one that allows the Office Accounting user the ability to
customize.

I asked this question and still have not received an answer. Usually
unanswered posts indicate that the answer is no.

What I have done for OA 2007 is copy my Word template for PO's several times
and then edit each with the address I will drop ship to. Each is renamed to
"drop ship to address". This allows me to select the template for the PO to
drop ship to and prints fine. Just a PITA.

No it's not just you. It's a drawback of the database design.

Purchase orders are not linked to customers. The program does not add
customer addresses to the address picker since it does not know which
customer the goods or for.

The design team for the program would need to work on how providing a way
for us users to tell the program which customer's addresses we want to add to
the address list

Who else wants this added? If you do please rate Mellow's post helpful.
The more people who chime in on a subject the easier it is to persuade the
design team that this so important that they should drop something they might
be planning now to fix this instead.

I found a fix for the issue:

Uninstall this program......

I purchased this software a week ago. I have been up for countless hours
trying to "manipulate" it to do what I need. After I pounded all my info(item
list, customer list, vendor list, tax list, etc.) out of Q.B. 2005 into a
format this software can work with(the box at Staples says "...Intuit
QuickBooks 2004-2006,..."). I get to enter my first sales order and my Sales
Order prints with [taxable] on an item(already did the xml thing) I have
entered as non-taxable. All other items are marked witth T. Then I enter my
first PURCHASE ORDER, and I can't ship it to where it needs to go. My
choices to fix it is a "workaround"? I'm going to unistall it and shred the
disk. Don't get me wrong I love all the other office products. That's what
enticed me to buy this. If I have to spend more time trying to make this
work...I'm going to print an invoice to M.S. for time spent trying to make
this work. Sorry guys... time is money. Even my old Q.B. 2005 has you beat

Really, to be able to use any accounting program to dropship is a given. It
really is bread and butter. I will hang in here for just a short while
longer, then it is back to QB... wish I never left.

It's a huge problem and I agree . It needs to be fixed. I think they would
know what customer to link it to if the Po's were made from the so's - that
customer!

Almost every small business that sells goods outside of a retail location,
needs "drop-ship" capability when producing P.O.'s

I did not use QuickBooks before, but it's looking pretty good right now. I
can't believe MS couldn't identify this "real world" need.

This is crazy... But did Microsoft happen to fix this drop ship issue in the
2009 release? I certainly hope so or I too have to consider abandoning it as
well.

Thanks in advance..

This has not been resolved. You have to open up a customer and copy and past
into the Ship To. If does not like you placing the company name on the first
ship line. It pops up the verify address dialog. You then have to cust and
paste between lines to get it right.

Basically, this stinks.
