Enrolled Agent Exam

I am thinking of getting into public accounting in the recruiting period after I graduate, rather than the one during my last year of school because of GPA reasons, and the fact that many firms only hire their interns and I could not take a semester off. I am expecting that by the time I graduate, my accounting GPA will be about a 3.5 and my overall GPA will be about a 2.9. My concern is my overall GPA of 2.9. I am wondering if I take the enrolled agent exam and pass all parts before the recruiting period I mentioned, if that would make any difference for my chances of getting into public accounting.

The 2.9 is not going away in the mind of the recruiter. So best to go in the period of last year of school , like you are supposed to. Not doing so will raise another question in the mind of a recruiter if you wait till later.
