excessive data

I have several years of data in my brokerage account, How can I delete the
early years and keep the correct balance?

My first question is why you want to delete old records, but I guess it's up
to you.

For non-investment accounts, you just delete the transactions you don't want
anymore, create a balance forward record, and you're done.

For investment accounts, it's not that easy because you will lose the cost
base for any active investment. Regardless, the only way to delete
investment transactions is to do so manually -- Ctrl-D each transaction. The
Year End Copy function won't do it because of the concern about losing
needed history.
