chapter 14 intermediate accounting volume 1 IFRS edition (no big difference with GAAP)
extinguishment of debts by exchanging with securities assets .... etc
when extinguishing debt with cash before maturity the difference between carrying value (fair value ) of debt and reacquisition price is to be considered in order to determine loss or gain on extinguishment - accrued interest will not be considered as part of carrying value
while when extinguishing debt by exchange with asset we consider accrued interest as part of carrying value!!
can anyone explain that difference ?
