Federal Tax Was Not Filed

Hi,

Several years ago, I did not have an income (none), and I was young and thought I do not need to file a federal tax.

How can I remedy this? Do I have to contact IRS and sort this out? If so, what is the process and where should I start? Thanks.

If you had no income then you do not need to file a return. So you are ok and don't need to do anything

Thank you Kirby.

Would that still be true if I was employed but did not receive any salary? I was working in the family business (2 people), and on that year, we did not have any sales; hence, no commission or anything.

Yes. Same rule. If you had no income you do not need to file a return,

If you had a gap in filing returns (were filing returns prior to this), I'd file some zero returns anyway to show that you didn't have any income so the IRS has a continuous history of returns. You don't want them coming back after a decade saying you owe money.
