full-time student, part-time employment

small question if someone can help

my son is a full-time university student who works part-time for the
university, total income for last year a little under 5k

do I still claim him as a dependent ? if I do, will I add his income to my
income tax for 2003 ?

or ...he will have to file his own income tax for 2003 but will likely not
have any tax liability with the cost of the books he had to buy ?

anything else I am missing or forgot to ask about ?

tia.

The person must meet ALL 5 Dependency Tests of which one is:

Gross Income Test

Generally, you cannot take an exemption for a
dependent if that person had gross income of
$3,050 or more for 2003. This test does not
apply if the person is your child and is either:
1) Under age 19 at the end of the year, or
2) A student under age 24 at the end of the year.

If you are ENTITLED to claim an exemption for a dependent, that dependent
cannot claim his or her own personal exemption.

Note ENTITLED. Doesn't matter if YOU actually do it or not.
