I've noticed 2 of our locations have run out of disk space. Each computer has
an 80 GB HD. I looked around and found that the log_.ldf is over 20 GB and
keeps growing by about 1 GB per day!!! How is this possible and how can I
reduce the size of this file? How can this be prevented in the future?

Joe,
The easiest thing to do is download and install SQL Management Studio
Express from Microsoft.com (if not already installed). Then use this tool
to connect to the database. If you right-click on the database and click
Properties. Click on the Options section and change the Recovery Model to
simple. This will prevent overly large database logs.

Joe,

Ryan's answer will fix the problem unless you have a too full disk to install it. Here's the kb in CustomerSource to fix it without installing anything. http://tinyurl.com/nl46l

The reason it happened was that when you created the store in HQ using the full version of SQL, you didn't set the Recovery mode of the Store's database to Simple after you created it, so it will run in SQL Express properly.

If you do need/want to install the SMSE, available here http://tinyurl.com/yfwflo8 at the store(s), try deleting some old Windows Updates in the \Windows folder.
