Help - Upgraded to Windows 7 and relaoded Money

I have upgraded to Windows 7, kept the .mny files from Vista that I have been
using for years, reinstalled Money from my CD, and it refuses to recognise
the saved files. It has created backup files that seem to imply that it is
Money 2004. Have I reinstalled an older version?

This is dreadful - I have all my records on thess files - someone please
help me to get them back

If your Money version is 14 - in Money, Help - About - you need to right
click your launch shortcut and select Run as administrator so that the
required online update is applied. For Money 2005 the version should be
14.0.120.1105 after the update is applied.

Your Money data file must be in Documents or some other unprotected area
so that changes and updates are saved.

Hi Jo.

I have had money running on Windows 7 since it was launched with problems
untill 2 or 3 days ago. I now get a message asking to open a strange file
every time I open Money. Can't remember what the message was, sorry, but it
was a strange file name.
That aside, I try using the "troubleshoot compatibility" option. I think
that is how I got it to work initially. The only problem I have now is that
even that is not working properly.
One final thought, if you can get it loaded, are you allowing it to update
the software?

.....

Right now for some good news..

It does work, Whilst I was writing this I was installing the programme and
it has done so successfully. So it would seem the key to this is the
troubleshoot compatibility mode.

Have you started a new file in Money and then checkd for updates online.

I use have to do this often as I regularly rebuild and then reinstall money.
The MNY files are upgraded to a level higher than the CD release so I have to
force an internet update.

Dominic you are a star, I have been struggling with this problem for days and
stumbled on this post by accident, I changed the setting and have now
recovered all the accounts for me, my buisiness, two chuches and a PTA -
Thank You!

Be glad this came up now rather than a year from now.

See http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/630.aspx for a method of
making a self-contained disk for reinstall of Money 2005 with the
updates in place. Be sure to do this before end of January 2011.
Do not lose the disk. Make an extra copy of that disk.
