HMRC payment

I note that if I setup a direct debit, it says the earliest they will be
paid is the 6th February. Would that mean that I would get stung if I used
that facility (for self assessment payment)?

The alternative is to us the Alliance & Leicester online form of payment.

Anyone know?

Did you give them enough time to take payment before 1 February?

Debit card should be instant - but HMRC would pay for the privilege. Direct
debit would take longer but cost HMRC somewhat less. We're talking a
pifling amount here.

That calculates to about £12k tax. There's all sorts of ways to

I know and it's paid. I would have thought the bill pay method using a
debit card would be expensive for HMRC, therefore a direct debit would have
been their first choice, even if there is a small delay in payment for HMRC.
An example, for VAT there's an incentive to pay through Direct Debit by
allowing a few days grace.
