How are stock transfers reported on 1099-B forms? If I transfer shares of stock to my brother, is that reported on my 1099-B as a sale (even though the shares are not being sold) and is his cost basis updated to the current market value? How is it reported on my 1099-B forms if my broker transfers my (appreciated) stock shares to a nonprofit organization?
