How to register New User Edition?

E

Eric Schneck

I just got a copy of QuickBooks New User Edition (NUE) with my new
computer. The program is asking me to register my copy. It says to call
800-924-3894 and enter my serial number. When I call that number, I get
a machine that asks me for my phone number and serial number. What phone
number does it want? I don't see my phone number in the QuickBooks "My
Company" info (that just has name and address).

Me thinks it is looking for the phone number you are calling from.
Presumably it is using the phone number to find previous dealings with
you (older versions, other Intuit programs).

You are right. I called them, and that is what the automated system was
looking for. Some explanatory words in error message the automated phone
system message would have helped. Also, it would have helped to not ask
for a phone number for a previous registration for the "New User Edition".

Anyway, thanks for the advice. It is now registered.

I understand your frustration as I was trying to get someone at Telus
today but, how many 'previous' registrations should they expect to
encounter with "New User" Editions!

But there may be previous registrations for other programs that
that the company sells. The idea they are probably trying for
is to only have one record for you, have that one record linked to
all your purchases. This may be a new user edition of Quickbooks
but maybe you also have Quicken Quicken Lawyer or other programs.

I'm sure you found this out by now, but QuickBooks NUE 5 that comes
with PowerBooks is NOT a full version... it's a DEMO according to
Intuit... even though the program registration screen and/or the Apple
web site make no mention of this! What a rip off. I personally think
it's flagrant false advertising! When I did the same registration
process, I entered my serial number like they asked and their
automated system told me it was not valid. I called and was told it's
a demo - but it took the buy about an hour to finally realize that and
tell me. Personally I think it really was supposed to be a fully
licensed version, but they changed their minds or just don't know how
to solve the problem with bad serial numbers.
