Inserting a memo in multiple transactions at once?

I have a subcategory: Alaska trip, under the category: Travel.

None of the transactions in the subcategory has a memo in it. I would
like to add the memo "Alaska Trip", so that I can merge the
subcategory into Travel, but still be able to find expenses due to the
Alaska trip.

The problem is that I travel a lot and I have too many subcategories,
and I would like to be able to delete some of them, but still have the
detailed records if I need them.

Thanks for any suggestions.

How's this:

Edit > Find & Replace < Find/Replace

Find: "Alaska Trip"
Search: "Category/class"
Match if: "Contains"

click "Find All"
click "Mark All"

then

Replace: "memo"
With: "Alaska Trip"

click "Replace"

then

Find: "Alaska Trip"
Search: "Category/class"
Match if:: "contains"

click "Find All"
click "Mark All"

then

Replace: "category/class"
With: "Travel"

click "Replace"

That is exactly what I do. Have only a suggestion: prefix your trip
name
with the two digit year (or yearmonth). A 2002 trip to Colorado became
"02CO" in my file.
