Install issues - MSOA SQL Server

Trying to install MSOA on WinXP (pro); I'm getting an error message that SQL
Server setup failed, thus nothing else installs. Checked Task Manager
processes for MSI.exe process running which might cause an install failure -
no luck.

Below are the error messages and related log files generated by the install
process.
Help!

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup error message
"SQL Server Setup unexpectedly failed. For more information, review the
setup summary log file in " then the path.

Summary Log referenced above has this text:

Looking around, I spotted other log files generated by the setup program
that may have useful information. The SQLSetup000x.log file generated by
today's install attempt has this info (pasted in entirety)

I broke down and called Microsoft support for this product. "Wendy" accessed
my computer and verified the install messages. We then tried to install SQL
Server 2005 Express by itself and encountered the same error as before.
Wendy was stumped by the problem but agreed to research it.

Within 24 hours I had an email and a call back from her with a potential
solution that WORKED!

This involves editing the registry, so I backed up the registry prior to
making this change (strongly suggest you do the same).

We searched for the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders\AppData

This key did not exist in the registry so she created it:
1. In the Registry with having the User Shell Folders folder selected, click
Edit at the top, Select New, and click Expandable String Value.
2. Type AppData for the name of the key.
3. Double-click on this new key, and type in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data
in the Value data field.

Once this registry key was created, we were able to successfully install SQL
Server 2005 Express and then Microsoft Office Accounting Professional.

I've seen several other posts in this newsgroup concerning this same issue.
Hopefully this information I obtained will be of good use to other users.
