integrating with other apps

i want to be able to integrate quickbooks with other apps such as microsoft
access. i want to keep my financial records using quickbooks and technical
information using a custom access database without having to re-enter basic
customer information. i want to synchronize the information saved in
quickbooks with that in access or else have it only in one program but
accessible from the other. does anyone know if there is a programmatic
interface to quickbooks such as COM or activeX that would provide this
capability? i realize this development level stuff as opposed to end-user
but i'm comfortable with that. i just need the information. any help is
greatly appreciated.
