Inventory question

Is it possible to track a single inventory item with Peachtree Complete,
showing each sale and purchase of a specific item? The only thing I've found
is "History" which shows the amount of total sales for a given time period.
I'm thinking of switching to Peachtree from Microsoft Money, but Peachtree
doesn't seem to be able to handle inventory any better than Money. I bought
Peachtree but there wouldn't be much sense to going through all the trouble
of switching everything over if there is no improvement in how I can track
inventory. My dissatisfaction with Money is it's lack of ability to track
individual inventory items. Does Quick Books have this feature?

Look very closely before buying QB and make sure it does what you actually
need. It only allows average costing (no LIFO or FIFO) and does not allow
for tracking of assemblies unless you buy the very expensive versions.
Maybe those don't matter to you, but QB doesn't tell you about this on the
box.

Peachtree does a much better job with inventory than Money or QB.

Why not install PT and look at the sample company called Bellwether Garden
supply as it has inventory. Then look at the Reports-Inventory section and
see if the reports do what you are looking for.

It's been installed for a month and I've examined the sample company and
even created my own demo company. I tried to display all transactions for a
specific inventory item and I can't see that PT will do it. It appears to do
the same thing as MS-Money. PT will give me all sorts of information on all
transactions but won't let me track one single specified item. It'll tell me
how many of this item I have in stock but it won't display the history of
that item. At this point I can't see any advantage to switching to PT. It
won't tell me anything more than Money tells me and it's 100 times more
complicated to use. I am a sole proprietorship with no employees other than
myself. However, I do have a large inventory to manage and there must be
some way to track it better than Money will do. I've about mastered Access.
A database might be more appropriate for the task than financial software,
although that would require entering information in two separate places, one
for purchases and sales and the other software for inventory tracking.
Before computers, I had a ledger and that was far more accurate than
software, although I'll admit it was a lot of work. Must be something out
there that will do the job.

Hey Bob -

It is possible that you could build the report you want with the Crystal
Reports add-on for Peachtree. I haven't used it myself, so I don't know for
sure if it will - maybe someone else here can chime in on that one . . .

If you're getting pretty good with Access, you might want to take a look at
Multiware's PAWCOM (www.multiwareinc.com) - which is a COM interface to
access Peachtree data. It comes with an Access front end that should make
it pretty simple to get the report you want.

We use Peachtree for Manufacturing. You can have both serialized stock and
assembly items. I don't know if this is available in other versions, but it
will give you the ability to track individual items from purchase, through
any assembly process, and sale.

I often wonder if the people who write financial software ever ran a
business.....or ever ran the software.

I use PTComplete 2005 and I have modified the Item Costing Report to do just
as you describe. You bring up the report, then click on options and change
the range, date, and field displayed. The report shows me when items were
purchased and sold.
Hope this helps!
